Welcome to Creature101!

We are computer scientists and education researchers who are building a website for preventing childhood obesity. What you currently see is our latest version.

Our work began in March 2009 when the National Institutes of Health (NIH) tasked us—Stottler Henke and the Teachers College Columbia University—with creating game-based methods to encourage healthy behavior in 9-12 year olds, or "tweens". We are adopting a proven school health curriculum and devising compelling game mechanics to teach children nutritional and healthy food choices.  Our small group has created this website which features a virtual "Tween World" of creatures, social networking, and Flash-based games with educational content. After learning about healthy foods and how to make informed decisions, children are encouraged to change their dieting habits with the website helping track their progress.
